Children Love To Be Involved In Decorated Their New Big Kid Room
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010Making the switch from the nursery to a big kid room is exciting for children but, often difficult for the parents. This can be a fun adventure for both if the child is involved in the totally process such as choosing themes, colors and bedding. There are hundreds of options for the decorations so providing them with only a few choices will not overwhelm them.
After they have chosen a theme, it will be time to take the baby cribs down and go shopping for a big kid bed. Once the crib has been taken down, remove all items that suggest nursery and replace with items for older children.
When shopping for the new bed it is important that the children go shopping as well and be involved in choosing which one they want. Most kids will be drawn to items such as a loft bed, but it is best to get one of the smaller toddler beds for safety.
If the child has a chosen theme picking out quilt sets are fairly easy as there are a lot of cute sets with cartoons, fairy tales or child friendly colors available. It would be best if the parents limited their selection between two, maybe three sets.
There will be a lot more toys in their room now so do not forget to get some colorful baskets or containers for storing items. When they have a container for each type of toy it will be much easier for them to put toys away when done playing. There are many styles of containers available made to be kid friendly so choose ones that are durable and made to last.
Purchasing the brightly colored child hangers also will help them to want their clothes to be hung in the closet as opposed to laying around. Instead of buying new dressers often times by applying a coat of new paint to the old ones with new pulls, the child will think they have all new furniture.
After all of the accessories have been purchased, it will be time to choose the paint color. They will feel a part of the process if taken to the home improvement store and allowed to choose the color. To make the choice an easy one, choose two or three paint chips and have the child choose between them. When the child has been involved in the transformation it makes it easier for them to adjust to their new big kid room.
