Tips On Decorating A Baby’s Room
March 12th, 2010
There are so many things to think about when you are expecting a baby, and decorating a special room just for them can make it even more exciting. What color scheme will you have? Will you have a theme for the room? What home decor accents are available for nurseries?
Your choices will possibly be easier if you know the gender of the baby, because you can make definite color and theme decisions. However, if you have not found out the sex of your baby, it’s OK, you still have two choices. The first one is to go neutral for wall and furniture colors and then add decor accents after the baby is born. To create a stronger color scheme later you can add pictures, lights, bedding, accessories and toys.
The second possibility is to decide on a color that will suit either a boy or a girl, like lemon, green, aqua or white. When the baby is born accents can again be added to bring in a more girly or boyish tone to the room. Whatever you decide, it is usually recommended by child psychologists that the room where baby sleeps should be mostly pastel shades to promote rest and peaceful sleep.
You might like to choose a theme for the baby’s room and this again is easier if you know for certain you are having a girl or a boy. However, it is still possible to go with an animal, garden or nursery rhyme theme that will be suitable for both girls and boys. Disney is a popular theme for baby’s rooms too, and one that can carry through the toddler years. You can get beautiful Disney baby bedding, curtains, wall hangings and pictures to complement the theme.
Nursery furniture is available in a wide range of designs and styles, with every possible need covered. Some of these are quite expensive, so ask around to see if anyone you know has baby furniture they can give away or lend. You will probably want to give it a fresh coat of paint, but this is part of the fun.
Once the walls are painted and the furniture is installed, all that is left are the finishing touches to personalize the room. Hang some pictures, possibly family photographs, add some cushions, hang a mobile or place a rug in the centre of the room. Choosing the bedding is another thing to think about when decorating the baby’s room; look for the stylish and cute designer baby bedding ranges in specialist stores. If your budget doesn’t stretch to these, keep an eye out for the sales and get some super specials.
Give some time and thought to decorating your baby’s nursery and make it an expression of you and your family.
